What does empowerment mean to you? Is it a person, an object, a moment, an action? Is it positive or negative? Let us consider it within the context of today.
In this collection, we interpret the theme of empowerment through the strength and power of those who have been brave enough to speak out about personal trauma. The work of the photographers here tells stories of resilience and healing, following tragic events that touched the image-makers lives in the most intimate way.
We also consider the photography pushing forward the dialogue surrounding the injustice of external, oppressive powers. These projects brandish hard truths and emotive metaphor to remind us that the fight for a just society, globally, is far from over. They remind us that it is our responsibility to keep amplifying the voices of the marginalised, and to empower the vulnerable.
