Female in Focus x Nikon 2024 Winners

We are thrilled to announce the two series and 20 single images announced as winners of Female in Focus x Nikon 2024

Female in Focus is an award designed to discover, promote and reward the remarkable work of women photographers.

While awareness of gender inequality in the industry is growing, progress remains slow. In August 2024, we surveyed over 1,000 respondents from our audience. Our survey revealed that of those taking part, women in photography earn 30% less than their male counterparts, and, 55% of the women had experienced gender discrimination in the workplace. Additionally, only 34% of major photography award winners over the past five years have been women.

Female in Focus x Nikon was judged by an esteemed panel, including Charlotte Jansen (Journalist, Curator, and Photo Critic at The Guardian), Danielle Jackson (Co-founder and former Co-director at the Bronx Documentary Center), and Heather Agyepong (Photographer and Nikon Ambassador), among others. The two winning series and 20 single images will be exhibited at 10.14 Gallery (London) from 10 April to 22 May 2025 and Glasgow’s Gallery of Photography from 26 June to 27 July 2025.

The theme of this year’s edition is Renewal, delving into the transformative process of rejuvenation and rebirth. This theme captures the essence of starting anew, whether through personal growth, environmental restoration, or societal change. Through evocative imagery, it explores the beauty and strength found in moments of revival and regeneration, highlighting the hope and possibility inherent in beginning again.

For the first time, Female in Focus introduces a People’s Choice category. Vote for your favourite photograph from the Female in Focus x Nikon exhibition, and the winner will be featured in an interview on 1854.photography.

People’s Choice Category

For the first time, Female in Focus is introducing a People’s Choice category, allowing the public to vote for their favourite photograph from the Female in Focus x Nikon exhibition.
The winning photographer will be featured in an interview on 1854.photography, discussing their work and creative practice.
