Portrait of Britain Vol. 7 Shortlist
British Journal of Photography is delighted to announce the shortlist for Portrait of Britain Vol. 7
We’re excited to announce this year’s Portrait of Britain shortlist, an annual competition by the British Journal of Photography that captures the essence of the UK through portraiture. Now in its seventh year, the 200 shortlisted images reflect the depth and evolving identity of Britain’s communities. On 6 January 2025, 100 winning portraits will be announced and displayed nationwide across high streets, shopping malls, and transport hubs.
Published in Portrait of Britain Vol. 7 – produced with Bluecoat Press and sponsored by JCDecaux UK – these portraits spotlight Britain’s heritage and modern identity. From historic industries like fishing and mining to social justice movements, the images reflect both tradition and progress. This year’s collection captures essential social issues, from healthcare and economic challenges to LGBTQIA+ and racial justice movements.
These portraits elevate voices from marginalised communities and celebrate the resilience of a united, diverse nation. Explore Portrait of Britain Vol. 7 to see how this year’s photographers portray a country at the intersection of history and change, reminding us of the power and the strength in standing together.
