Female in Focus x Nikon 2025 Winners

We are delighted to announce the two series and 21 single images announced as winners of Female in Focus x Nikon 2025

In partnership with Nikon for the second year, Female in Focus is an award designed to discover, promote and reward the remarkable work of women photographers.

While awareness of gender inequality in the industry is growing, progress remains slow. In August 2024, we surveyed over 1,000 respondents from our audience. Our survey found that, based on the people that responded, the women working in photography earned 30% less than their male counterparts, and that 55% had experienced gender discrimination in the workplace. Additionally, only 34% of major photography award winners over the past five years have been women.

Female in Focus x Nikon 2025 was judged by an esteemed panel including Alessia Glaviano (Global Head of Vogue Italia and Director of the PhotoVogue Festival), Julia Gelezova (Curator and Writer, PhotoIreland), and Louise Fedotov-Clements (Director at Photoworks), among others.

The two winning series and 20 single images will be exhibited at 10.14 Gallery in London from 24 April to 29 May 2026 and at International Centre for the Image from 10 September to 25 October 2026.

This year, we invited photographers to respond to the theme On the Cusp, exploring personal and global turning points. From moments of revolution or transformation to quieter transitions such as ageing, climate change or technological shifts, the theme reflects the uncertainty and potential of what lies ahead.

With the winners’ announcement, Female in Focus opens the People’s Choice category. Vote for your favourite photograph from the Female in Focus x Nikon exhibition and the winner will be featured in an interview on 1854.photography.
