Female in Focus Winners 2022
We are pleased to announce the winning images and bodies of work of Female in Focus 2022!
Female in Focus, an international photography award from British Journal of Photography and 1854, was established to champion the work of exceptional women photographers from across the globe and directly combat gender inequality in the photography industry. Globally, 70–80 per cent of photography students are women, yet they account for only 13–15 per cent of professional photographers – and that must change. This year’s call for submissions was centred around the theme of home.
Female in Focus 2022 was judged by an esteemed panel including Karla Guerrero, Founder of Femgrafía; Katy Barron, Chair of the Board of Directors, Photofusion; and Jekaterina Saveljeva, Founder, femLENS, among others. The two winning series and 20 single images will be displayed in an exhibition at Photofusion, London, from 28th October to 24th November, and a US exhibition in 2023.
Stories of resilience, freedom and joy. Traversing subjects including climate change and illness, identity and the meaning of home. With winning images by world-class photographers including Lina Geoushy, Valentina Fusco and Sonali Ohrie, British Journal of Photography and 1854’s Female in Focus 2022 shows us the world through women’s eyes.
